Marina amenities

Two things are to be done to keep the marina clean: first, to inform the boaters of the facilities available at the port and second, to get the visitors use these facilities as a part of their common behaviour.

The facilities provided in order to preserve the marina environment :
− clean toilets are available at the port.
− a waste oil container in the hull repair area
− a waste batteries container at the port workshop
− a disposable batteries box at the port office (soon)
− 6 small waistbins and 10 600l garbage bins at each dock and catwalk.

Good Habits...

Boaters should be careful not to pollute the eco-system where they navigate. The Big Blue is our common heritage: to preserve it means to protect ourselves and the future generations.

The boater's ten commandments :

1 / Before setting the boat on water make sure the engine is in good condition, to avoid any trace of oil or leakage of petrol. The same holds good for fuel tanks and the engine supply pipes.

2 / To protect the hull and to avoid water poisoning, use green antifouling products. Beware of substances containing lead, zinc and chromium.

3 / To keep the boat clean, avoid household detergents and opt for biodegradable products.

4 / While filling the fuel tank, be careful to avoid any leakage in the water. The tanks are to be filled on the dock and not on board.

5 / Fuel reservoirs should comply with the existing norms and be compatible with the engine power point.

6 / Before dropping anchor, take notice of the type of seabed under the keel. Your manoeuvre must respect the integrity of the seabed, especially in the proximity of the Posidonia. Get informed on the pecularities of the region you are going to visit. It is advised to clean the anchor thouroughly after lifting it, to remove the residue of Caulerpa taxifolia (see www. polmar.com). Its proliferation beyond control reduces biodiversity and threatens the already weakened Posidonia.

7 / Any waste, inevitable on board, should be taken ashore and dropped in the appropriate containers. New technologies are available at the port to treat biological waste.

8 / Waste batteries and flares should not be thrown into the sea, but collected and returned to the seller. Batteries out of use contain lead and dangerous acids. Expired flares can explode at a simple change of temperature aboard.

9 / In Sea Reserves and protected zones the boater respectful to the natural environment abides by the instructions of local authorities. Generally, yachting is not forbidden but restricted. More you respect the environment, less complicated and less expensive navigation will be in Sea Reserves.

10 / Do not pour the sewage into the sea, when in a harbour, in a sea reserve or in a protected zone of a particular environmental value.

Follow these recommendations and get the message across to those around you
